Language is unspeakably important

English usage is sometimes more than mere taste, judgement, and education — sometimes it’s sheer luck, like getting across the street.

— E.B. White

Ever since medieval scholars got together to design English spelling using specially-constructed dice, the challenge of writing our language both correctly and readably has daunted many whose main skills lie elsewhere. Good English is by no means as rare as some would have you believe, but excruciatingly bad English is universal. That is bad for us as readers, but it is surely worse still for the perpetrators, since the purpose for which they have labored — communication, with whatever benefits it may bring — has been self-sabotaged.

Yet it is not difficult to avoid their problems. Begin by recognizing that the people you want to impress may have superior language skills. Professors. Bosses. Editors. Likely as not they will know good — and bad — writing when they see it. And judge accordingly.

We aren’t judgemental, but we too have the skills. When you have a document that has to be just right, call on us to check it over before release. Our proof-reading and editing services are very affordable, and requests for fast turnaround can usually be accommodated.
